Honda’s LCR Team Launches New MotoGP Bikes in Bangkok

On a vibrant Saturday in Bangkok, LCR Honda took center stage to unveil the MotoGP bikes for its riders, Johann Zarco and rookie Somkiat Chantra. Following the Sepang MotoGP test, which wrapped up on Friday, both riders made their way to Thailand, reflecting the team’s commitment to engaging with fans and the media at this important launch event for the 2025 season. The energy surrounding the event underscores not only the excitement for the upcoming MotoGP season but also the importance of Thai representation in this elite motorsport.

The aesthetic direction for LCR’s new motorcycles aligns with a distinctive split design approach, separating the two bikes into unique yet complementary color schemes. Zarco, a seasoned racer with previous Grand Prix victories, will ride a bike bearing the iconic white-and-green colors of Castrol, a partner that has been part of the team since the mid-2010s. Meanwhile, Chantra, who makes history as Thailand’s first MotoGP competitor, will pilot the rebuilt white-and-red bike formerly used by the retired Takaaki Nakagami, now bearing the logo of Idemitsu. This shift in branding signifies not just a change in sponsorship but a cultural milestone as Thailand continues to build its legacy in motorcycle racing.

The tie between LCR and its sponsors plays a crucial role in the team’s strategy and ongoing success. Castrol’s investment has expanded, now embracing a title sponsorship role with the factory HRC team, illustrating the company’s confidence in the brand’s growth within the world of motorsports. Similarly, Idemitsu’s dedication to nurturing Asian talents is unmistakable; their support for Nakagami laid a foundation that now benefits Chantra, showcasing the company’s commitment to bolstering local talent on a global stage.

With LCR’s bike launch behind them, the entire MotoGP grid has now taken the wraps off their 2025 machines. An exciting public launch event is scheduled in Bangkok, where fans will have opportunities to meet teams and riders. However, the event casts a shadow as some celebrated names, like reigning champion Jorge Martin and others, are forced to miss this exciting occasion due to injuries from the preceding Sepang test. Their absence highlights the sport’s inherent dangers, alongside the thrill it brings, as teams gear up for the forthcoming season.

Looking ahead, LCR’s ambitions hinge significantly on Honda’s ability to rejuvenate the struggling RC213V model and narrow the competitive divide with their European counterparts, including Yamaha. Strikingly, last season saw LCR finishing in a commendable 10th place in the teams’ standings, outpacing even Honda’s factory team. Zarco notably secured Honda’s highest placement in the 2024 season by clinching an impressive eighth at the Thai Grand Prix, providing a foundation for optimism as the team gears up for the challenges of the new year.

As excitement builds for the upcoming test in Buriram and ultimately the 2025 season, LCR Honda stands at a pivotal crossroads, where both tradition and innovation converge to shape the future of motorcycle racing in Thailand and beyond.
