The Chicago White Sox Struggle Continues

The Chicago White Sox find themselves in the midst of a historically bad losing streak, with their latest skid extended to 11 games after a 13-3 rout at the hands of the Baltimore Orioles. This loss marked the 20th straight defeat in games where Chris Flexen started, surpassing the previous record held by Chris Capuano of the Milwaukee Brewers. The White Sox’s record now stands at a dismal 31-108, with the team on its third-longest losing streak of the season.

In order to avoid tying the post-1900 loss record set by the 1962 New York Mets, who finished the season at 40-120, the White Sox would need to go 12-11 for the rest of the season. Despite their best efforts, the team is currently on track to finish with a record of 36-126, which would put them second only to the 1899 Cleveland Spiders at 20-134. The White Sox are facing an uphill battle to salvage the remainder of the season.

Chris Flexen, who is now 2-14 on the season, has been unable to secure a win in his last 21 appearances, with 20 of them being starts. His ERA stands at an underwhelming 5.73, highlighting the ongoing issues on the pitching front for the White Sox. Flexen acknowledged his disappointment in his performance, stating, “Every time I take the ball, I expect myself to go out and be competitive, have strong outings.”

On the offensive side, the Baltimore Orioles showcased their prowess with Cedric Mullins, Austin Slater, and Gunnar Henderson each contributing significantly to the team’s 13-3 victory. Mullins led the charge with a home run and three RBIs, while Slater and Henderson added three RBIs each to the tally. The Orioles capitalized on their opportunities, going 7-for-23 with runners in scoring position.

Baltimore’s offensive outburst against the White Sox was reminiscent of their season-high 17-run game against the Yankees and marked their most hits in a game since June. The team’s ability to consistently put runners on base and capitalize on scoring opportunities was a key factor in their convincing win over Chicago.

Overall, the Chicago White Sox are facing an uphill battle as they look to salvage the remainder of the season and avoid setting unwanted records. With their pitching staff struggling and their offense failing to produce consistently, the team will need to regroup and refocus in order to finish the season on a more positive note.
